A community that together achieves and maintains a healthy weight at every age.

What is The Weight of the Fox Valley?

Did you know that over 60% of residents in Calumet, Outagamie and Winnebago Counties are overweight or obese? Excess weight can lead to health issues including heart disease, high blood pressure, stroke, cancer and diabetes. Join Weight of the Fox Valley in building a healthier community. Weight of the Fox Valley (WOTFV) is a three-county initiative with a shared vision of working together to achieve and maintain a healthy weight at every age.

WOTFV Next Generation

WOTFV is embarking on a process to determine how we can collectively foster a vision for creating a healthier Fox Valley; where the culture and environment make it easy to lead a healthy lifestyle and more of our residents live longer, more vibrant, and healthier lives. You may have heard the recent media coverage about new data which reveals that 75% of Fox Valley adults and 29% of youth have a body mass index that classifies them as overweight or obese. This health issue continues to be an urgent priority for our community!

WOTFV, through its amazing partnerships, has demonstrated success towards creating a healthier community; however, the current pace and intensity leave us challenged to bring about significant change in a timeframe that can turn the curve now. This proposed explorative process represents an evolution of these efforts; to scale up this work in order to create bigger, bolder, more sustainable change. Watch our newsletter for important updates!

AmeriCorps Update

Americorps Logo

WOTFV AmeriCorps Program is now accepting member applications for the 2018-2019 service year! Members will serve for a full calendar year, from 9/1/2018-8/15/2019.
Members will educate, create, implement, and promote activities and programs regarding physical activity and healthy eating to Fox Valley youth and adults. While creating a culture and environment that supports health, members will receive professional development, hands-on experience towards internal goals, and make a difference in the Fox Valley community. Members will serve in either a full-time capacity of 1730 hours (average 34.5 hours/week) or half-time capacity of 930 hours (average 18.5 hours/week). Members will receive a living allowance during their year of service and an education award to pay off student loans or tuition costs after successful completion! Click here for more information.

Food as Medicine

On Friday, August 10th, Dr. Kay Theyerl from ThedaCare presented at Wake Up with Weight of the Fox Valley. Dr. Theyerl discussed what drives health and disease and how we can move from a system of "disease care" to  a path of "empowered health care" using food as medicine. For PowerPoint slides of the presentation, click here
Save the date for our next Wake Up with WOTFV event on Friday, November 9th with keynote speaker Dr. Sheri Johnson from UW Population Health Institute.
