Cauliflower Rice vs White Rice

RICE TO MEET YOU: Cauliflower rice is becoming a large food trend. It is now even available in your local freezer section to take out all the prep work. So the question becomes what is the better option: using regular white rice or cauliflower rice for your next stir fry?

Cauliflower is among one of the healthiest cruciferous vegetables as it is packed with vitamins, minerals and fiber. It has powerful antioxidants to boost your immunity and fight diseases. Cauliflower has 25 calories and 5 grams of carbohydrates per cup vs 205 calories and 45 grams of carbohydrates in a cup of white rice. Rice, with its plentiful amount of carbohydrates, provides energy and fuel for the body. Like cauliflower, it has low levels of fat, sugar, and sodium.

The Verdict:  Both have their own nutritious benefits, but if carbohydrates are an issue, especially for those with diabetes, cauliflower may be a better alternative to rice. It also adds another veggie to your plate!

TIP: If you choose rice, make it brown rice as it has more nutrients and a higher fiber content than white rice to aid in digestive health and prevent different types of cancers.
