Our Wellness Winner of the month (November 2015) is Connor Story. Connor decided to make a change even as a young adult. He struggled with poor eating habits throughout middle and high school. “When I hit 285lbs on the scale my junior year of high school, it actually hit me like a ton of bricks. I didn’t want to grow up like that anymore. I wanted to be healthy and an inspiration to others in the same situation.”
Connor realized that he was getting enough exercise, but a healthy lifestyle requires changes in more than one aspect of life. “Exercise and activity was never hard for me, I grew up in sports and with incredibly active friends, so it was really just changing the food I put into my body.”
Ultimately, as with any diet change, Connor realized that it simply required him to turn down unhealthy food. “It truthfully came down to realizing that nobody else put a fork or spoon in my mouth… every single calorie that went into my body was my choice.”
In addition to being aware of the types of food necessary for a healthy diet, Connor set small goals that he could work towards. “First I wanted to go from 285lbs. to 265. Then 265 to 245 and so on. When I got to a weight that I was comfortable at it became more about the sport and fitness, than just losing weight.”
Now, Connor is living a healthier lifestyle and continues to run, as well as training in CrossFit. He takes hard work and sees it as a challenge to push through instead of giving in. “Move beyond the need to be motivated and just do it. It’s hard, everything worth doing is hard, but it’s worth it.”
Thanks to his changes, Connor lives a healthier life. If you have made a change in your life to be healthier, feel free to submit your story to Deb Schmidt.
